Students Eat Free in 2012-2013
Yes, that is correct ~ all enrolled MWSD students eat free this school year! Mary Walker School District has now been approved by the State of Washington for ”Provisional 2” - which means free breakfast and lunch meals for all its District’s students, regardless of family income! A huge “thank you” to the cafeteria staff for working so hard and so long to make this happen.
No lunch applications are required from students enrolled in Mary Walker School District. The breakfast and lunch meals that meet the USDA requirements will be free to each enrolled student from the first day of school, regardless of family income! Since the District met the State’s criteria for Provisional 2 for the 2012-2013 school year, we are able to provide free meals to students for an additional three (3) years without the need for meal applications!
Extra milk, “second meal”, extra juice, etc, will continue to be available to students for an additional charge.
Fresh Veggie and Fruit Grant
The Mary Walker School District has once again received the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable grant for the 2012-2013 school year. All students in Springdale Elementary will have an opportunity to enjoy a healthy snack after lunch for free, compliments of the cafeteria. Congratulations Mrs. Oakes and her cafeteria staff on promoting healthy eating habits for ALL students!
Meals at School
The Mary Walker School District follows the nutritional guidelines set forth by Federal and State agencies. The cafeteria supervisor, Shauna Oakes, will continue to work diligently to provide students with nutritious and delicious breakfast and lunch offerings.
The monthly menus will continue to be available at the school offices so that parents can plan their child(ren)'s meal choices. The current month's lunch offerings can also be found online on the menu at the left.
Be sure to notify the school nurse and the cafeteria supervisor if your child suffers from a food allergy.
